Mama Geo was founded in 2004 by Salima Manji, an ex-investment banking consultant with an entreprenurial streak.

Many of Salima's friends were like her, trying to lead a healthy lifestyle based on organic foods and regular exercise. As they were mothers, they felt uncomfortable giving chemicals and additives to their children to alleviate teething pains.

Salima then set about researching the alternatives and discovered that amber’s healing properties worked naturally with the body to calm and relax it. Amber has been known for centuries by midwives and mothers in the Baltic countries but seemed relatively unheard of in the UK.

A few months later a producer was found, who hand made the 100% Baltic amber teething necklaces. Salima then set about testing them on her friend's babies/toddlers who slept and bathed in them for months whilst teething. The feedback from the mothers was extremely positive and through word-of-mouth, the business grew quickly as mothers were realising the natural healing properties of amber when worn against the skin (not intended to aid teething through chewing).

The website was designed soon after to ease the ordering process and over the last few years, the business has taken orders not only from the UK but from the USA and even New Zealand!

After much testing, Mama Geo, meaning Mother Earth, was born.
